IMPLICATIONS OF SCHMIDT’S SCHEMA THEORY AND CONTEXTUAL INTERFERENCE THEORIES OF MOTOR LEARNING ( 1975) FOR THE COACHING OF YOUNG CHILDREN.

Mohamad Razali Abdullah

Abstract.
This article explores the implications of Schmidt’s Schema Theory and Contextual Interference Theories of Motor Learning for the coaching young children. Schmidt suggests that the learning process of children in games and other psychomotor activities is made easy by the development of schema in their mind. In addition random practice, with contextual interference, as opposed to blocked practice, better facilitates retention and transfer of performance. Contextual interference has been found to produce highly skilled performers who can solve problems more easily in new situations.
